February 2 2007 was the first day of our Sunday Service which was originally held in Cardiff, Ontario. Rev Rita Marie Browning opened with “Welcome to the Bancroft Centre for Awakening Spiritual Growth” and then proceeded with an opening prayer and the rest of the service.
Word started to spread, and soon a congregation formed to the point where we needed a larger space to hold the service. A few calls were made, one in particular to North Hastings Community Integration Association. Without hesitation, Jane Mayberry, Executive Director, offered NHCIA’s Board room and gave us a wonderful venue overlooking the York River in Bancroft.
In October of 2007, the Centre became incorporated as a not-for-profit Corporation.
We were delighted to be involved with a variety of community events in 2007. The Town of Bancroft held a recycling contest. The Centre created an angel made out of over forty different recycling items. We were honoured with first prize. These proceeds were given to the Family Literacy Day and York River Festival. We also held a yard sale for the same group. In celebration of Grandparents’ Day, one of guest speakers, Betty Cornelius from CANGRANDS spoke at our service about their support group. A decision was made to assist her group by means of hosting a Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction fundraiser in October. Both events were so successful, we will be hosting them annually. A charity barbeque was held in the fall as a final fundraiser to round out the year. We are proud to say that over $4500.00 was raised in total. We are looking to be involved in a variety of events again this coming year.
As our membership grows, we look forward to increased participation in upcoming classes, fundraising events, community involvement and new fellowship.
Once a month, after service we get together for fellowship with a great pot luck dinner. We take the time to get to know each other sharing thoughts on inspirational movies or books we have read.
In 2009, the Bancroft Centre for Awakening Spiritual Growth was recognized by the Ontario Government Marriage Office. Rev Rita Marie holds her marriage rite through the Bancroft Centre for Awakening Spiritual Growth. We can also ordain our own ministers.
So many changes have taken place since first opening the centre.
In Feburary 2015, The Ontario Marriage office has reconized our Denomation as Metaphysical. In March 2016 we become the Representive for the University of Metaphysics, The University of Sodona and the Internation Metaphysical Ministry.
We now hold gatherings at two different locations. Here in Bancroft and in Lakefield.
I am so proud of the direction the centre has taken. It has helped so many seen their own dreams of Ministry come true. I look forward to the years ahead, developing new classes and structures to help those that walk through our doors.
